I confess – I had no idea what I was doing, but I did it anyway.
It all started with one rock and a lot of tears.
And then it was rock, after rock, after rock, and after rock.
I started placing these rocks on the earth.
I had a realization that gathering them helped me to be present (There is nothing like stepping into a pile of red ants!)
It allowed me then to notice what was going on with me as well as Mother Earth.
I had just returned to Birmingham after living in New York City for 35 years. What had I done? I asked myself as the tears flowed.
Each week, as I returned to the land that was my father’s, the circle would grow with stones. My feelings would settle as I began acclimating to being back in the South.
Before I knew it, I had created a great circle of energy – a Medicine Wheel.
I can’t really prove where this knowledge comes from.
I can say though that through working with my ancestral energy, I truly believe it was a combination of another lifetime as a Shaman Healer.
I didn’t really talk about this too much nor share the space with others as I wasn’t very confident. But something within me just knew.
And I followed that knowing.
I trusted my inner guidance and allowed my knowledge of the Medicine Wheel teachings to grow as well.
This circle has grown as has my knowledge of the teachings.
They continue to guide me to this day. It offers me a place to go to understand all the many transitions life has to offer.
As one of my teachers, Itzhak Beery says: “We are all Shamans, we just have to take responsibility for our paths.”
I wouldn’t call myself a Shaman, yet I trust these teachings from the experiences I gain by connecting to Mother Earth through her sacred elements.
I listen to the wind.
I allow the rain to fall on my face.
I light a fire and recognize the passion of the night.
I ground my energy with these sacred teachings.
This circle has grown and continues to keep growing – as has my knowledge of the Medicine Wheel. The teachings continue to guide me.
One thing I know for sure is that life is full of transitions!
Transitions can be difficult but they can also be freeing as they allow you a chance to shift, course correct, and talk to your Spirit so that you may grow.
There is so much to learn as we step from one season to another and so many ways to help shift your energy which is the subject on this week’s episode of The Empowered Spirit Show.
These teachings come from my personal experience as well as learning from other teachers and continue to help me move through all of life’s challenges… especially the idea of course correct.
There is nothing glamorous or fancy about the Medicine Wheel but it holds an amazing beauty and energy within it.
I wanted to share these teachings with you in hopes that it will offer you a different perspective on this new season for your growth.
For a deeper understanding, you can listen to my recent episode on The Empowered Spirit Show, Teachings from the Medicine Wheel – Autumn.
